, it wasn’t starting QB Quinn Ewers but rather backup Arch Manning who first found the end zone for Texas. Ewers, who was questionable in the week leading up to the game with an ankle injury, was cleared to play Saturday night, but it was Manning whose number was called on a Longhorns 4th-and-2 deep in Aggie territory in a scoreless game in the first quarter.
Manning hadn’t stepped onto the field yet in the game, but he promptly took the ball on a read option, broke a tackle during a 15-yard run, and hit the pylon to count the game’s first touchdown and give the Longhorns an early lead.Manning was originally ruled to have gone out of bounds at the one yard line, but after a length replay review it was determined he touchdown the pylon while in-bounds and therefore scored the touchdown. The Longhorns maintained their 7-0 lead into the second quarter.
