Police got an assist from a local cow retrieval service—aka, a cowboy.
May 24, 2023
We've all seen police chases on TV—there's the helicopter high above, tracking the scofflaw as they weave in and out of traffic, desperately and dangerously fleeing pursuing police cars. Sometimes we even get in-car video, from the chasing cars' dashcams, which often culminate in dramatic PIT maneuvers, in which the police car bumps the fleeing vehicle's rear quarter panel in an effort to spin it and bring the chase to a safe conclusion.
Or you can pull over a cow the right way, using cowpokes and traditional wrangling techniques. And that's exactly what happened. In the video above from Detroit's local Fox 2 station, we see the familiar view of the chase unfolding via police dashcam footage. For those not from the Mitten state, that funky hood ornament-lookin' thing eating up the lower half of the feed is an uplit plexiglass sign on the hood that faces sideways and reads"State Police" with a large"STOP" in the middle—helpful markers for enhancing stopped emergency vehicles' visibility.
It turns out this was no rando on a horse hoping to milk his moment in the spotlight. Ricky Littlejohn apparently captures loose cattle for a living, and is a Michigander through and through. His business is ropin' loose cows, and apparently business is quite good of late, with Ricky mentioning in that Fox 2 segment that he used to see a handful of runaway cattle each year, and now is involved in recovering hundreds.
