Angela Madden, chair of WASPI, said 'all of that now is defunct'

WASPI campaigners, who have been urging MPs to deliver their long-awaited compensation pay outs, have suffered a 'hugely disappointing' set back with the announcement of the General Election.

It comes after the release of the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman's report which recommended they should receive compensation ranging from £1,000 to £2,950. This included a compensation bill proposed by Alan Brown MP, which was set for its second reading next month.Ms Madden expressed her disappointment to Express.co.uk, saying: "It's hugely disappointing. We have worked so hard in the two months since the report was published.

"That was a good thing. All of that now is defunct because there is virtually no Government for the next six weeks, because it will be dissolved. Work and Pensions Secretary, Mel Stride, was asked about the issue on Wednedsay by the Work and Pensions Committee. He said it was "quite a challenge" for him to weigh up the different aspects of the case for compensation as he looked at the issue.
