WASPI campaigners are sending a stark warning to prospective MPs: ignore their cause at your peril, as it could sway votes in the upcoming General Election.
Angela Madden, the chair of WASPI , has announced that their campaign is kicking into high gear with the approach of July 4. Speaking to the Express, she revealed: "What we've been doing is putting in place our own campaign as to what we're asking for." The campaign has launched an initiative on their website providing resources like window posters for WASPI women to signal their presence and expectations to political canvassers. With a recent survey indicating that 68 per cent of voters believe the women deserve compensation, the WASPI issue could be a game-changer, potentially diverting votes from the major parties.Ms Madden predicts other parties might benefit, stating: "We do expect the other parties to gain votes.
However, she said she expects the Liberal Democrats to back WASPI compensation in their manifesto, as they called for this in their pre-manifesto. Another party backing the WASPI cause is the SNP, with the Scottish Parliament recently approving a motion for "compensation in full" for the 1950s-born women.
Also supporting the women is The Workers Party of Britain, headed by George Galloway, with Mr Galloway recently calling for DWP action on the issue. The political party has also called for the personal allowance to increase to £21,200, which would ease the tax burden for millions of pensioners.
