A petition by FJM, LLC, owned by the Marshall family, to rezone 8.75 acres of land near the airport from Agricultural to General Industrial was tabled after a group of residential neighbors in the area protested the change at Monday’s Porter County Board of Commissioners meeting.

Residents are concerned about drainage, traffic and aesthetics with the rezone in Washington Township, which is for generic industrial use. Commissioners President Jim Biggs, R-North, proposed tabling the matter until he and Vice President Barb Regnitz, R-Center, can get out to the site, which is just east of the airport near the intersection of County Road 100N and County Road 450 East, in person. Commissioner Laura Blaney, D-South, has already been to see it.

1 deadline for Indiana counties to opt in or out of the state’s new Health First Initiative 86 of the 92 had opted in. That meant the money that had been set aside for receipt by the six counties that opted out was redistributed to the rest, bringing Porter County’s share for 2024 to $1,753,072.76. The county will receive the funds Jan. 1. The department has also received over 50 applications for the newly-created care coordinator position.
