The department calculates the wage increase using the federal Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers beginning in mid-September every year. This index measures the change over time in the prices paid by workers for goods and services. However, employers are allowed to pay 85% of the minimum wage to workers ages 14-15, under state law. In 2024, workers in this age group can be paid $13.84 an hour.
