The state of Washington's recommendations build on the West Coast Health Alliance guidance, aiming to help families safeguard themselves and their communities as viruses continue to spread, Gov.
Bob Ferguson said Wednesday.remain consistent with the Sept. 4 standing order, which advises everyone aged 6 months and older to receive the updated COVID-19 vaccine.The announcement on Sept. 4 by the West Coast Health Alliance follows previous efforts by the Trump administration to limit vaccine access under new guidelines. Washington, Oregon, California and Hawaii launched the West Coast Health Alliance in early September, to pick up where state leaders believe the federal government is lacking when it comes to guidance on vaccines. In recent weeks, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has faced scrutiny over CDC firings and vaccine policy."Our states are united in putting science, safety, and transparency first — and in protecting families with clear, credible vaccine guidance. The West Coast Health Alliance stands united in protecting public health and always putting safety before politics," said the governors of Washington, California, Oregon, and Hawaii in a joint statement. Vaccination is described as safe, effective, and the best protection available against respiratory viruses like COVID-19, influenza, and RSV, according to the Washington State Department of Health . Seasonal vaccination is also highlighted as a critical public health tool to reduce serious illness, community transmission, and strain on hospitals, according to DOH officials.
