But it was a memorable ride, nonetheless.
Washington will return home to Houston after making its first appearance at the UIL state tournament. Before this season, the Golden Eagles had not reached the final four since 1959, when they competed in the Prairie View Interscholastic League. Faith Family, ranked No. 1 in the state by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, finished its season the same way it began on Nov. 11 at the Campbell Center in Houston — with a victory against Washington. After that opening game, Faith Family coach Brandon Thomas was confident his team would see the Golden Eagles again in San Antonio.
There was plenty of hype around the encore, which was propelled not only by the rematch, but also the Houston vs. Dallas storyline.
