When it comes to player comebacks the Washington Commanders are no strangers to uplifting storylines.
It's Super Bowl XVII at the Rose Bowl in southern California and Washington is trailing by four points with just over 10 minutes left in the game.
""The best was yet to come for Riggins. After two low-impact seasons in Washington, he posted back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons in 1978 and 1979. This spike in production led to a contract holdout that caused Riggins to miss the 1980 season," Valentino wrote in his rankings piece. But Riggins isn't alone in making this listing. Quarterback Alex Smith also makes the list, and in fact comes in higher than Riggins, ranking second overall after coming back from arguably the worst leg injury the NFL has ever seen.
