Cleveland Cavs President Koby Altman and head coach J.B. Bickerstaff have brought the Cavs from 22 to 44 to 51 wins in the last three years.As for the Cavs’ flop in the playoffs, it was frustrating. Team president Koby Altman admitted, “It left a sour taste in our mouths.” He said those words more than once.It’s part of Altman’s job to turn some of those frowns upside-down. It’s a new season. “It’s hard to say a 50-wins plus team and the fourth in the East is a disappointment,” said Altman. “What happened in the playoffs has fueled us to get better and hopefully not have things end like they did last year.” That mindset has infected the NBA, where players were rested for “load management” even though they were healthy. Fans paid outrageous prices for regular-season tickets for a very inferior product some nights – not because of injuries, but due to the obsession with preparing for the playoffs.
Bickerstaff’s point is the Cavs remain a young team. They need success in the regular season to prepare for the playoffs. It’s 82 games for the fans to become engaged with the team. Basketball is entertainment, a diversion from real life.
