Golden State will still have another opportunity to hold on to this talented young player — but he could cost them.

The Golden State Warriors failed to agree to terms on a contract extension with young forward Jonathan Kuminga in time for the Oct. 21 NBA deadline, reports Anthony Slater of The Athletic.Kuminga was one of two extension-eligible young players currently poised to embark on the fourth season of their rookie-scale salaries. The other, guard Moses Moody, was inked to a three-year, $39 million extension deal on Monday.

Neither is a star just yet, but Kuminga's midseason 2023-24 emergence as a scorer seems to have at least created the possibility that he could one day blossom into a high-level offensive contributor. In 74 contests for the 46-36 Warriors last year, Kuminga averaged a career-best 16.1 points , 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 0.7 steals — along with tying his career-best tally for blocks with 0.5.
