FBCA baseball team travels to New Braunfels for key contest
An FBCA batter watches a pitch hit the dirt during their bi-district win last week. Coach David Turner will need disciplined batters come Tuesday afternoon if they're to give St. John Paul II trouble. Some believe that this spring’s Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Division 3 baseball state playoffs is merely a formality to the inevitable.
Many feel John Paul II has a chip on its shoulder over that contest, while Bay Area Christian wants a second straight crown. Oh, but should the Warriors become that fly in the soup and spoil that anticipated state semifinal contest, the rewards would be great. They would clinch a berth to the Division III TAPPS quarterfinals, one step away from the state semifinals and finals at the University of Texas at Arlington May 17-21.Turner expressed concern about John Paul II’s likely starting pitcher. He must be referring to senior Sam Kowalik, a First Team All-State pick last year and voted to the all-tournament state team.
The Warriors have faced pitchers this season with that kind of zip on their fastball and FBCA hasn’t done well. Turner will be the first to state that fact.
