Steve Kerr told the younger players that the incident at Wednesday’s practice is “not normal.”

SAN FRANCISCO — Warriors rookie Patrick Baldwin Jr. was standing within feet of Draymond Green and Jordan Poole at practice last week when the veteran power forward started swinging.

When Green walked over to Poole during Wednesday’s practice, what seemed like an ordinary practice spat escalated into an unsettling scene. And one that has thrust Green and the Warriors into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. At this point, most of the veterans are used to Green’s outbursts. But there are many new faces and young guys on the roster who aren’t as familiar. And this was by far the most extreme one known to the general public.

Poole hasn’t shared his side of the story, but has seemed unfazed by the situation. He was in high spirits Sunday in a preseason game against the Lakers, which he dropped a team-high 25 points. It’s been nearly 550 days since James Wiseman suited up and played for the Warriors in a regular-season NBA game. He missed all of last season after experiencing several setbacks from a knee surgery he underwent in April 2021 before finally returning to the floor in summer league.

Wiseman has shot 51.7% from the field through three preseason games and appears to be aware of his spots as camp has gone on.
