The Rockets ended the game 11-of-35 from deep compared to the Warriors’ 26-of-54.

Thompson accounted for 12 of Golden State’s 3-pointers and scored 42 points.

K.J. Martin and TyTy Washington Jr. led the way for the Rockets with 22 points and 15 points, respectively. Forward Jae’Sean Tate added 14 points. But the Rockets’ two other starters had brutal shooting nights. Forward Jabari Smith Jr. shot 4-of-16, 1-of-6 on 3-pointers. Center Alperen Sengun was bullied by counterpart Kevon Looney in the post and limited to five points on 2-of-10 shooting, but dished eight assists with nine rebounds.

The Warriors used long-distance shooting to create, well, distance. They shot 51.9 percent on 3-pointers in the first half and drilled 10 in the second quarter alone while building a 17-point halftime lead. By the time Thompson drilled Golden State’s 23rd 3-pointer of the game in the third quarter and flexed in jubilation, sending the Chase Center crowd into a frenzy, Houston was almost drowning in a sea of 3s.

Golden State starting guards Donte DiVincenzo and Thompson combined to go 17-for-26 on 3-pointers. On Houston’s side, Washington and reserve guard Daishen Nix made three each.Washington made his first career start in the place of injured guard Jalen Green and was effective in facilitating ball movement within the Rockets’ unbalanced starting lineup.
