Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) endorsed state Rep. Charles Booker in next week's Kentucky Senate primary, becoming the latest high-profile Democrat to back Booker over Amy McGrath to face Majority Leader Mitch McConnell next fall
Sen. Elizabeth Warren endorsed state Rep. Charles Booker in next week's Kentucky Senate primary, becoming the latest high-profile Democrat to back Booker over Amy McGrath to face Majority Leader Mitch McConnell next fall.
Warren tweeted that Booker "is a lifelong Kentuckian who has seen how Mitch McConnell and Washington, D.C. have failed working families. I’m proud to endorse him and join his fight to root out corruption, dismantle systemic racism, and make big, structural change."national and local Democrats getting behind Booker, who has seized momentum in the race against McGrath, a Marine veteran supported by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
McGrath has vastly outspent Booker in the race and raised more money than nearly any other Democratic Senate candidate in the country. But Booker has closed the gap with newfound momentum and a wide array of liberal supporters backing him ahead of Tuesday's election. Warren's endorsement is particularly noteworthy because she had previously sent out a supportive message for McGrath, whom she also endorsed during McGrath's unsuccessful 2018 House campaign. Warren sent a tweet the day McGrath launched her Senate bid last July boosting her, but stopping short of an endorsement. Booker did not enter the race until months later.
Warren said in a tweet at the time that McGrath was "a real fighter for working families in Kentucky and across the country. She inspired us in 2018, and now she’s running for the U.S. Senate. Go Amy!"
