Some of the most essential devices for small business could be bricked in coming weeks.
Small businesses and farmers have been urged by the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman not to be caught out when the aging network turns off.
"It could affect EFTPOS terminals, security systems and cameras, scanners, industrial routers, tablets, smart watches, asset tracking tools, surveying instrument, water and environmental monitoring and many of the wireless operating systems on farms," he said.Vodafone and TPG Telecom's shared network has already been switched off.
Customers with Telstra and Optus can text the number "3" to 3498, and will get a response back telling them if their device is connected. Telstra urged all customers with 3G eftpos terminals to replace their devices with 4G compatible devices sooner rather than later.
