Candice Warner has broken down recounting the 'incredibly unfair' media coverage that followed her after she was pictured in a cubicle with former rugby league star Sonny Bill Williams.
The pair were in their early twenties in 2007 when they met at the Clovelly Hotel in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and were pictured in a cubicle in the men’s bathroom.
Candice Warner broke down recounting how the intense media coverage affected her. Picture: Network Ten Following the incident both athletes expressed regret and embarrassment but it was Warner who faced far greater scrutiny from tabloid media and the public. “It still blows my mind today how I was forced to apologise for a drunken pash that I had on a night out.”
“I just thought this is it. I just couldn’t take it anymore, I couldn’t take the headlines I couldn’t take disappointing my parents I couldn’t take it all it was all too much.” More than a decade later the scandal followed Warner and her husband, Australian cricketer David to a tour of South Africa in 2018 with fans donning masks with Williams' face to unsettle the opening batsman.
