More than a dozen Wanship residents have voiced opposition to Blue Sky Ranch's expansion plans, arguing they do not sufficiently preserve the rural character of their community. Owners seek to nearly double the resort’s size, adding 72 new lodging units and additional amenities.

More than a dozen Wanship residents expressed their concerns about Blue Sky Ranch 's expansion plans at a hearing, arguing that the proposal does not adequately preserve the rural character of their community. The Blue Sky Ranch is located within the hills along Old Lincoln Highway, near Wanship . Currently, it consists of over 60 units of lodging, a distillery, restaurants, and equestrian facilities, often featured nationally.

Owners Mike and Barb Phillips wish to expand the resort, adding around 72 more units of lodging and additional amenities. Mike Phillips stated at the Eastern Summit County Planning Commission meeting on Nov. 21, the goal is to minimize the density and impact while preserving the rural nature of the area.
