↻ RETAKE ASSESSMENT In an interview with Gold Derby, Goggins revealed that one of the most emotional scenes that they filmed for Fallout season 2 never made it to the screen. The actor further elaborated, stating that the sequence took place while the Ghoul was recovering after being rescued by the Super Mutant portrayed by Ron Perlman. The deleted scene showed the Ghoul hallucinating while in severe pain after falling through a pole.
In his mind, he was confronted by his daughter, who asked him why he failed to find her. At the same time, he also imagined Lucy condemning his actions and forcing him to consider the possibility that his family might never forgive him. The combination of guilt and regret created an emotionally intense moment that explored the character’s deepest fears. Goggins explained that filming the scene became surprisingly personal.
He said that he had been separated from his own son for extended periods of time while he was filming for Fallout season 2, which made the material hit much closer to home than he expected. According to the actor, the scene didn't just affect him. The mood of the entire cast and crew who were on set became a little bit heavier and more tense because of how emotionally draining the moment was.
Despite how effective the sequence was, the creative team ultimately decided it was not the right time to include it in the series. While the added context may have provided more insight into the Ghoul’s emotional state and mental well-being, they felt that it made more sense to focus on other elements of the character’s journey. Goggins also shared his thoughts about whether he believed the Ghoul deserved a happy ending.
As viewers of Fallout know, the character isn't a hero by any means. However, he's not a villain either. He explained how he has already suffered enough throughout the first two seasons of Fallout. And, regardless of all his flaws, the actor said that the character had already experienced enough pain.
Goggins said that he believed that Ghoul deserved a break and a second chance, hoping that the creative team would show him a little mercy this time around.
