A handful of Northeast Ohio's best stood out among a field of 286 wrestlers participating in the second annual Women of Ironman tournament.
CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio — This season marks three years since the OHSAA officially sanctioned girls wrestling. That decision opened the doors for the Walsh Jesuit Ironman, after 29 years of building the boys tournament into one of the nation’s largest, to add a girls tournament for a jam-packed weekend of wrestling.
The inaugural Women of Ironman tournament took place last season to the tune of 175 participating wrestlers. That number ballooned to 286 this season. Girls from all over the country made their way to Cuyahoga Falls to participate. That includes a bunch of Northeast Ohio’s best. Here’s a look at the area girls that held their own on the first day of the second annual Women of Ironman wrestling tournament.Otero couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to high school wrestling. She made her way into the quarterfinal by pinning a senior at 3:30 in her first match and another pin right at the first-period buzzer got her to the semifinals.Madi came into the tournament as a No. 3 seed and has shown exactly why en route to a semifinal appearance.
