The company said the decision was made after a review process determined it was underperforming financially.
MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Walmart on Mayfield Road east of Interstate 271 will close in May, according to an announcement from the company.
“We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our Mayfield Heights location,” regional spokesperson Felicia McCranie said in an email. “We look forward to serving them at our other stores in the surrounding communities and onMayor Anthony DiCicco said he found out about the Walmart closing Tuesday morning when a company representative called. He said he isn’t sure what met the definition of underperforming, saying that shopping plaza has been pretty robust.
DiCicco said he never wants to see any stores close in the city, and feels sorry for the workers who may lost their jobs, although Walmart said they will transfer employees who want to stay with the company.
