Walmart is making changes to policies for its store greeters with disabilities after some of those workers said their jobs were in jeopardy

New York The policy tweak over the weekend came after social media backlash and an NPR report documented how a 2016 Walmart policy shift led to job losses for greeters with disabilities and threatened to eliminate jobs for current greeters with disabilities. Those workers will now get more time to find new jobs within the company."We recognize that our associates with physical disabilities face a unique situation," said Walmart spokesperson Justin Rushing.

But greeters had to apply to become hosts. Walmart said in 2016 that it expected more than 80% of greeters to become hosts or find a new position at the company. For workers who were unable to find another job at the company, Walmart offered severance pay.Walmart has slowly rolled out the host job to around 1,000 stores since the plan was first introduced, and the switch has created a challenge for workers with disabilities.
