A recent study conducted by WalletHub has unveiled the most and least favorable cities in the United States for tying the knot, taking into account various factors such as cost and the availability of wedding-related services. The study revealed that the average American couple shells out a staggering $35,000 on their wedding day. However, wedding expenses can vary drastically depending on the location. WalletHub analyzed more than 180 U.S.
cities to determine which offer the most budget-friendly options and provide the most convenient settings for wedding celebrations. The assessment considered 26 key indicators of wedding-friendliness, encompassing factors like venue and hotel pricing, the availability of essential wedding services, and overall affordability.Based on these criteria, Orlando, Florida, emerged as the top city in the nation for weddings. The study highlighted Orlando's abundance of readily available wedding services, including videographers, DJs, and florists. Additionally, the city boasts the second-highest hotel density per capita in the country, and its three-star hotels offer surprisingly affordable rates for a major metropolitan area. Notably, four out of the top ten cities identified in the WalletHub study are located in Florida, showcasing the Sunshine State's appeal for wedding celebrations.The WalletHub study also pinpointed the ten worst cities for weddings, based on the metrics employed. This list included places like Pearl City, Hawaii, Bridgeport, Connecticut, Warwick, Rhode Island, and South Burlington, Vermont. WalletHub's analysis encompassed a wide range of data points, factoring in average wedding costs, hotel room prices, restaurant expenses, and the prevalence of cost-effective wedding logistics. The study also considered the availability of wedding chapels and churches, event spaces, makeup artists, hair salons, bridal shops, and limousine services. Furthermore, the researchers evaluated the number of attractions in each city for wedding guests, their popularity as travel destinations, and weather conditions. The data used to compile the rankings were collected as of January 7, 2025, from reputable sources such as the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, The Wedding Report, Kayak.com, Numbeo, TripAdvisor, Travbuddy.com, Yelp, and WalletHub's own research. Chip Lupo, a WalletHub analyst, commented on the findings, stating, 'When weddings can cost tens of thousands of dollars and prices have only become even more outrageously inflated in recent years, it pays to hold your wedding in a city that's affordable, both for those paying for the wedding and for guests who will need to make accommodations. Certain cities also make wedding planning easier with an abundance of options for wedding essentials, from florists to videographers to venues.
