"It was amazing to me that we owned Colgate-Palmolive. I asked, why don't they give us free toothpaste? Oglesby also participates in various firm initiatives, including the Bank of America Equity Investment Fund, where he's a review-committee member focusing on investment opportunities that address economic and racial equity. He also helps with the firm's on-campus and lateral M&A recruiting efforts. Connie Lee went to Harvard thinking she was going to be a lawyer, volunteering at a free law clinic on the weekends.
She is mainly focused on the public markets but has done research on private companies, particularly in artificial intelligence and robotics. In public markets, she has looked at everything from clean-energy companies to semiconductor manufacturers. The billionaire Steven Schonfeld hired her to find portfolio managers talented enough to trust with his personal capital, and she worked quickly. What was once a small operation has ballooned into a full-blown hedge fund with hundreds of employees all over the world.
"My interest has always been in human behavior and why people make decisions, how people make decisions," she said. Kanwal said he likes working on restructuring because he can be a generalist and a specialist all at once. "I really enjoyed doing market diligence," she said."That was really the first time I learned what investing was." Part of her role is also integrating a data-driven approach for quantifying ESG and private-market bets into CalPERS' investment process."In a way, I think just the deep desire to preserve that natural beauty — for myself and for future generations," she said,"makes me particularly motivated to care about climate and the environment. That really tucks into my ESG hat.
