) - Walker County residents say they felt the Earth tremble Monday night as the northeastern part of the county experienced an earthquake.She said her dogs “got a bit weird” when it happened.
“The deaf Pit whimpered, the Lab barked,” Watson said. “For a moment I felt movement. And it was over.” The quake happened at 10 p.m. Monday night two-and-a-half miles WNW of Sipsey. According to USGS information, it was a shallow quake at just over a mile deep.“Most of the earthquakes we experience in Alabama are associated with the Southern Appalachian Seismic Zone that runs along the Appalachian Mountains from the northeastern corner into the central part of the state and the Bahamas Fracture Seismic Zone in southern Alabama,” the GSA says on its website.
