The small town has been plunged in to darkness for the celestial event, as the sun, moon and earth perfectly aligned on the state's Coral Coast.
Exmouth Shire Council President Darlene Allston said years of planning have gone in to prepare the region for the influx of visitors. "We have done all we can do to sort of deliver the safe event for all of the people that have travelled here today," Allston said. "So for part of the eclipse it will be a total eclipse. For part of it will be a ring depending where you are.

Exmouth Chamber of Commerce builds viewing platform for Thursday’s solar eclipse in WANingaloo Reef in Western Australia is the place to be to watch the solar eclipse on Thursday. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Exmouth is building a viewing platform for about 3,000 expected sky gazers. It will be 30 kilometres outside the town. The organisation has also purchased 20,000 pairs of eclipse-viewing glasses, advising those wanting to watch the eclipse to use sufficient eye protection.
