So many windows were damaged that MTA officials say they are running out of spare glass to make repairs.
Subway service on the W line was suspended Wednesday morning after a vandalism spree on Tuesday evening.
The MTA said a vandal or vandals smashed 78 windows on 35 trains from the inside. It appears it happened while the trains were in service.By around 11 a.m. Wednesday, 25 trainsets had been repaired, but hundreds of thousands of commuters were impacted by the damage.The damage was also impacting service on the B, D, N, F and Q lines.
Police said the video system in the subway system is vast and robust and they hope it will prove helpful. Anyone with information is asked to tell a police officer or MTA employee, or call NYPD CrimeStoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
