Florida police uncovered a gruesome scene on Saturday when they discovered abandoned suitcases containing human remains swarmed by vultures, leading to the arrest of a 19-year-old man linked to the chilling discovery.
The City of Palm Bay Police Department reported that officers responded to the scene located at 1574 Bombardier Boulevard, also known as the "compound," at 10:50 a.m. after receiving reports of the suitcases, which were surrounded by vultures. The probable cause affidavit states that inside, they discovered what were later confirmed to be human remains. As they investigated further, a second suitcase in close proximity was found to contain additional human remains. Authorities uncovered that the suitcases contained Amazon packages addressed to 19-year-old Lucas Sander Jones. Following the discovery, police reported executing a search warrant at Jones’s residence, where they made contact with his girlfriend. During the investigation, it was reported that Jones had visible healed wounds and bruises on his left shoulder and neck. Jones's girlfriend told officers that on March 20, she saw Colie Lee Daniel, the victim, lying on Jones's bed. At the time, Daniel appeared to be either sleeping or unconscious. She recounted how Jones attempted to wake him without success. After leaving to use the bathroom, she allegedly returned to find Daniel missing.According to the girlfriend, the next day, Jones asked her to drive him to the Compound, where he allegedly removed two gray tote containers from her car and discarded them in different locations. She claimed she was unaware of the contents of the containers. During a search of Jones's home, police found several blood stains and a kitchen knife that matched a knife discovered inside one of the suitcases at the Compound. As a result of the investigation, Lucas Sander Jones was taken into custody and accused of tampering with evidence, abuse of a dead human body, and transporting a dead human body in an unauthorized container.Survey: More than half of Washington clinicians cite mental-health risks from cannabis use More than a decade after Washington legalized recreational cannabis, a new survey suggests many clinicians are increasingly worried about the mental-health riskA Bellevue, Washington, tax preparer who built a client base among tech workers was convicted of assisting in the creation of false tax returns, federal prosecuA person is dead after being pulled from the water at Green Lake, according to the Seattle Fire Department.A weakness in the system used to detect improper payments in subsidized child care contributed to an estimated $37M in questionable payments.Gov.
