Vice President Kamala Harris will address the 113th annual NAACP Convention in Atlantic City at 9:30 a.m. Monday
The vice president’s speech is part of an effort to highlight the accomplishments of President Joe Biden’s administration in advance of the 2022 midterm elections, according to a White House official speaking on condition of anonymity.
In recent weeks, she’s also addressed the National Education Association and the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials. The roundtable will be the latest effort by Harris to highlight abortion rights in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling and efforts by Republican-led states to ban the procedure, even in cases of rape, incest or the health of the mother.
On Saturday, Harris is scheduled to travel to Philadelphia, and recently met with state legislators in Orlando, Florida. Last week, the President signed an Executive Order Protecting Access to Reproductive Health Care Services, and the Administration is leading a whole of government approach to addressing this health care crisis.to protect abortion rights, including access to Food and Drug Administration-approved medications, emergency medical care and contraception.
The administration also is assembling a team of lawyers willing to represent, without charge, women who cross state lines to obtain abortions banned in their home states.
