Rep. Chris Stewart's district runs from Davis County to St. George. The district has nearly 834,00 people in it.“This is the first I heard about it," Kimball said. "I just got back into town after being in the country for a little while. I thought he was a good congressman."“I think he represented the state effectively," he said. "But again, I’d like to see a Democrat maybe, just for the sake of getting back to a two-party situation here in the state of Utah.
Stewart represents the state's most expansive district, with many of his constituents living as far as 330 miles apart, spanning urban, suburban and rural communities. The boundaries, which were redrawn after the 2020 Census and are currently being challenged in court, stretches from Davis County in northern Utah to the state's southern border. With the exceptions of Box Elder and San Juan counties, the district encompasses all the counties on its western and southern edges.
All four of Utah's districts intersect in the middle of Salt Lake County, where the majority of the state's left-leaning voters reside.As of Wednesday morning, Stewart had not officially announced his resignation. When it comes, though, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox will issue a proclamation that a special election will be held, according to state law.
