Local results are being pinned up at local polling stations after many delays in Zimbabwe's vote.
A woman walks past the voters roll at a polling station during the presidential and legislative elections in Harare, on 24 August 2023.Election results are starting to trickle in as vote counting starts in some parts of Zimbabwe.Internet access is slow across the country, and sharing images is hard, according to users.
Results are likely to be delayed in the important areas. A survey of polling agents after polling officially ended, showed that in Harare and Bulawayo – which are more likely to favour opposition candidates – more than 50% of polling stations did not open on time. In other areas, only some 20% of polling stations had delayed openings.Polling agents were submitting result forms, which are being steadily collated and verified, various people involved in the process told News24.
The ZEC has made no official announcements. But Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa tweeted:"Against all odds! We are winning!"Not everyone may see his posts, though. Restrictions to internet access, first noted by internet advocacy group Netblocks on Tuesday night, persisted throughout polling day, with all major telecom networks in Zimbabwe affected.
