On MLK Day of Service, volunteers in Arlington, Texas, came together to distribute donated goods and serve their community. The day is dedicated to honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by continuing his work of service and social justice.

By late morning, volunteers fanned out to distribute bags across the city.
That idea drew Maddie Bowen, of Fort Worth, to Arlington to package canned goods, meat sticks and granola bars with fellow members of University Baptist Church in Fort Worth.Coleman, of Arlington, said MLK Day is an opportunity to model selfless public service, as the holiday’s namesake did before his assassination in 1968.
“He was one of the few public figures who pushed serving others,” Coleman said. “Too many of them are about serving themselves or their agendas.
