More than a thousand volunteers have mobilized to assist residents stranded in their neighborhood after flash floods devastated Central Texas last week. The destruction of the bridge over Sandy Creek left many without a way to leave the area.

Jennee Lamberton, an organizer with the volunteer group, lives in the neighborhood. She said her house is okay, but she wants to help her neighbors get back to normal. "Everybody's lost something, or knows somebody who's lost something, and it's just heartbreaking," she said as she started to cry."We had 75 text in for the first day. Then it was 200 the next day. It was 500 the next day. And then it was 1000 today," she said. "It's overwhelming how many people want to help."Volunteers like Evan Wayne have been tirelessly transporting food and supplies across the creek. He said he biked over 60 miles in two days. "I'm moving ice. Chicken feeds been a fun one. I'm moving all the food. Chick Fil A, Rudy's. You name it, I've brought it," Wayne said. Whitney Hall, a registered nurse, and her team traveled from Kerrville to provide IVs to keep volunteers hydrated. "If we can give them a preventative infusion to keep them hydrated and keep them going so...more families can have closure," Hall said."Nobody set out to be leadership in this, but we all just banded together and it's just been beautiful," she said. The relief operation will be handed over to the Austin Disaster Relief Network tomorrow, ensuring continued support for those affected.
