Volunteer firefighters react to state's stipend program to support volunteer fire service

Gov. Kathy Hochul says the effort is meant to strengthen the state's volunteer fire service. All qualifying courses and eligibility rules can be found"For our volunteers, it's well-deserved," said Chief Andrew Wilkinson. "A lot of times brand new firefighters, when they come on board, they have the basic firefighter training. What we call, Firefighter I in New York State. So, the stipend is going to be able to allow them to sometimes take time away from work.
