Yale commit Gabby Stasys has joined Lynney Tarnow to give Benet an overwhelming middle attack in her first season as a starter.
Benet’s Gabby Stasys spikes the ball for a point during a match against Skutt Catholic of Omaha, Nebraska, in Lisle on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023.
That has changed for Stasys this season. The junior middle hitter has broken into the starting lineup and is helping the Redwings break down opposing defenses.“I love being a part of this team,” Stasys said. “It’s definitely so fun. Last year and freshman year, I loved supporting the team and everything, but it’s a whole new experience when I’m on the court.”
The Redwings did so again Thursday. Stasys had four kills and four blocks as Benet beat defending Nebraska Class B state champion Skutt Catholic 25-8, 28-26 in Lisle. Asleson, who has committed to Dayton, served eight of her match-high 13 points, including two aces, during that run. She said the Redwings feed off the energy Stasys brings.
