A volcano erupted around 20 miles from Iceland’s capital Reykjavik, sending lava spewing into the air. The country’s meteorological agency said the eruption began on Monday afternoon in an uninhabited valley, following days of seismic activity.
“The eruption is small and there is presently no emission of ash to the atmosphere,” the service said, adding that lava appeared to be emerging as a series of fountains along a 200-meter fissure in the ground.as Fagradalsfjall volcano, in the past two years.
