Influenza and COVID-19 are spreading rapidly in NSW, but they are not our only problem.
Influenza and COVID-19 are spreading rapidly in NSW, triggering an early spike in people visiting emergency departments, as a slew of respiratory illnesses swirl in NSW at the start of the flu season.
“This is what we expect with RSV and flu. The interesting thing is COVID because COVID is not yet seasonal. The important thing is for people to keep the vaccines up to date.”NSW Health said the rates of COVID-19 infections were rising across all age groups, with about 400 cases reported each day in the week to May 11. However, there was a massive jump in cases detected among elderly people aged 90 and older in that period.
“The emergence of COVID-19 variants has been associated with new waves of COVID-19 infections, so we continue to closely monitor these trends,” NSW Health said on Thursday. NSW Health said the most recent data showed the virus continued to show a high level of activity, but there had been some decline in the youngest children.
Babies under 12 months who are at the highest risk of illness from illness can get an RSV vaccine, while vulnerable people over 60 years of age may be eligible for a vaccine, but it is not free.for children and young adults with pneumonia, particularly children aged 5 to 16 years. “People over 65 are facing influenza, pneumococcal, RSV, and also shingles. We’re getting into the stage of having multiple vaccines for ageing people as well as young people.”Whooping cough, or pertussis, is an extremely contagious respiratory illness caused by a bacterial infection. The infection causes a long coughing illness which can be life-threatening for babies.
