Virgin Hotels Las Vegas invited the Culinary Union leadership to arbitrate an agreement that could end the ongoing strike, but the union rejected the offer, calling it a meaningless publicity stunt. The union argues that the hotel's proposal only addresses a third of the demands made by the workers and that arbitration would legally bind the union to terms unfavorable to the workers. The Culinary Union, representing around 700 employees, began striking over six weeks ago.

Virgin Hotels Las Vegas invited Culinary Union leadership to arbitrate an agreement that could end the Culinary Union strike against the hotel-casino after more than six weeks of striking. However, responding to the message, the union's Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge, called the act a meaningless publicity stunt.

"There was a letter, but it's meaningless because if you are only willing to sit down and talk about a third of what the Strat workers requested, that's not really bargaining in good faith," said Pappageorge. Pappageorge also said the Culinary Union received a letter requesting a third party to step in. He continued that if the union were to accept the hotel's proposition to arbitrate, the union would be legally bound to the terms established by the third party. Odds are, he said, the resolution would not be in favor of the workers.

"The key point is this: these workers are ready to bargain and make their own decisions," said Pappageorge. "They are not looking for a third party to step in."According to the Culinary Union, the strike involved 700-some employees and weekend parties. On the 44th day, members were treated to Noche Cubana to honor the hotel-casino's Cuban staff, which comprise nearly 50% of the housekeepers.
