Qantas has a frequent flyer program competitor nagging at its heels, with Aussies signing up to Virgin Australia’s Velocity in droves.

Mr Rohrlach said “the trend this year is obviously very strong as well” but the airline has not yet put out its detailed financials., Virgin said its net profit after tax was $129 million, from revenue of $5 billion in the year to June 30, up 124 per cent. It was Virgin’s first profit in 11 years. “The last couple of years has only reiterated just how core Velocity is to the business and Bain has certainly been investing heavily in our growth and I think is very keen to keep it together,” he said.
