Frightening footage shows two zookeepers trapped in the gorilla enclosure at the Fort Worth Zoo.

Moments later, a second zookeeper appears, carefully watching the gorilla’s movements. Once the gorilla is distracted, she scrambles toward the same door the first keeper hid behind.On Friday, some national media outlets reported on the dramatic videos, which have captured some 40 million views on TikTok.The incident actually occurred on Oct. 20, zoo spokesperson Avery Elander said. Neither the zookeepers or Elmo, the 34-year-old gorilla, were injured.Frightened zoo visitors can be heard gasping and praying in the two-minute-long video. “Oh my gosh. God help her. God help her. God help her,” one woman said. “God protect her. God, animals obey the sound of your voice.”Zookeeper error caused the episode, Elander said. Zookeepers typically move the gorilla troop into their indoor habitat while keepers place the animals’ lunch in the outdoor habitat, she said. But that day, staff entered the World of Primates unaware that Elmo was still in its habitat.“The zookeepers work with and train these animals every day and, thanks to their knowledge and expertise, they navigated the situation calmly and were able to exit the yard safely,” she said.he worked in security for the Fort Worth Zoo and responded to the gorilla call.
