Across the country, thousands participated in similar protests as the nation continues to react to events in Minneapolis, where two people were killed in confrontations with ICE and other government immigration agents. Several "violent agitators" were arrested in Los Angeles after authorities issued dispersal orders amid "ICE out" protests throughout the city, according to police.Authorities said the protestors were "actively fighting" with officers. "We had hoped that demonstrations today would be peaceful, however, as you can see in this video, the violent agitators invited LAPD due to their actions," the LAPD Central Division said in a post on X. Footage appears to show a mob of protestors holding signs and swarming around a dumpster, which was vandalized with graffiti and the words "f**k ICE." Police said In a separate post, police described it as an "unlawful assembly" and issued multiple traffic advisories as the mob marched through city streets.said thousands of protesters gathered outside City Hall before many of them marched to the federal detention center. According to the media outlet, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said five suspects were arrested for failure to disperse, adding that police did not immediately confirm how many people had been arrested.The mayor urged demonstrators to protest peacefully. "Peaceful protest is a constitutional right," Bass wrote on X. "I urge Angelenos to exercise that right safely and not give this administration an excuse to escalate. Los Angeles stands together."The demonstrations come after two deadly shootings in Minneapolis, including Renee Nicole Good on January 7, as well as Alex Pretti on January 24. The Department of Homeland Security previously said Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse, was fatally shot after he approached CBP officers while carrying a 9mm semiautomatic handgun and two magazines. Officials did not say whether the weapon was brandished. Citing a notification sent to Congress, The Associated Press later confirmed that two federal officers fired Glock pistols during Pretti's shooting. Good, also 37, was fatally shot by an ICE officer.
