Vince Vaughn looking off to the right
The original Wedding Crashers, featuring Vaughn and Owen Wilson, came out on July 15, 2005. It followed two divorce mediators who snuck into strangers' weddings to drink, party, and pick up women. Directed by David Dobkin, it's regarded as one of the most iconic comedies of its era, and it grossed $288 million worldwide on a $40 million budget.
While promoting his latest film Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, Vaughn told E! News he's open to a sequel, but will only do it for the right story. He said, "Well, there's always been discussions about it. I would, you know, if there's a good story, it's always fun to do something, but I think you'd need a really good idea and not just jump into it." He added, "...but I think it has to be its own story, so it could be fun to get back with those guys if everything worked out." Quotes and interviews suggest that there are two main reasons for the delay — creative challenges and scheduling conflicts. Cast members have repeatedly stressed a need for a strong, original story and idea. The caution could be due to how successful the first film was. Given the high expectations, the creative team wants to get it right. Other cast members have also echoed Vaughn's stance, as Isla Fisher told E! News, "There have been conversations where we were pretty close." She added that she hopes that the cast can reunite for a sequel. Fisher also said on Watch What Happens Live!, "I have a feeling that we’re waiting on Owen ’s schedule... But I think Dave Dobkin’s interested, and Vince. All the ingredients are there.” Continuing with this, in an interview with Variety, Owen Wilson said, “If we all agree that we have a good idea, then we’re trying to make something good... But it’s sort of figuring out what that idea would be and if we think we could do something worthwhile.” In addition to this, scheduling conflicts have seemingly proven difficult. In 2021, with production reportedly moving forward, Wilson took a role in the Haunted Mansion remake, and was slated for Loki season 2. And around this time, Vaughn committed to Apple's Bad Monkey. At this time, Puck reported that "Wedding Crashers 2 falls apart at the finish line." As of now, Wedding Crashers 2 is still possible, but only if the right story and scheduling both come together. No official announcement or start date has been set, but given some of the actors' comments, Vaughn's latest remarks, and public statements, the movie remains in early stages and as a future possibility, not a greenlit film. 8.6/10 6/10 Wedding Crashers 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed R Comedy Romance Release Date July 13, 2005 Runtime 119 minutes Director David Dobkin Writers Steve Faber, Bob Fisher Producers Andrew Panay, Peter Abrams, Robert L.
