Villarreal cesó por segunda vez a un entrenador esta temporada al anunciar el viernes la salida de José “ Pacheta ” Rojo. El equipo español solamente ganó cinco de 12 partidos en todas las competencias desde que Pacheta se hizo cargo luego de reemplazar a Quique Setién en septiembre, después de que Villarreal perdió tres de los primeros cuatro partidos de la temporada.
Ha tenido un desempeño inferior esta temporada a pesar de contar con un talentoso equipo de ataque con los delanteros Gerard Moreno y Yéremy Pino y el mediocampista Álex Baena junto con el lateral derecho Juan Foyth. El club informó que el director deportivo Miguel Ángel Tena será el entrenador interino para el partido del domingo en contra del Atlético de Madrid.
