HANOI (Xinhua): Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Tuesday (April 28) approved to resume the country's rice export to normal from May 1, Vietnam News Agency reported.

The decision was made at a meeting on rice export plans, following an earlier proposal by the country's Ministry of Industry and Trade and relevant authorities to abolish rice export quota and resume rice export to normal from May 1.

Vietnam has banned rice export in March to ensure national food security amid the Covid-19 epidemic while resumed the export earlier this month with a quota. Vietnam has about 6.5 to 6.7 million tonnes of rice available for export in 2020, the news agency cited a report by the Ministry of Industry and Trade as reporting, adding that the country's total volume of paddy production stands at about 43.5 million tonnes this year. - Xinhua
