Bing, a Walmart employee since 2010, opened fire inside the store in Chesapeake, Virginia.
At a news conference on Wednesday morning, ChesapeakeChief Mark Solensky said police received a call about the shooting at 10:12 p.m. ET, and that the first officers arrived on the scene two minutes later. They entered the store at 10:16 p.m. and the scene was declared safe by 11:20 p.m.
Solensky confirmed that six victims had died and four others were in area hospitals. He said police believe the shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Solensky said the shooter was a Walmart employee and used a pistol in the shooting, but did not provide any details about a motive. In a statement posted on Twitter, Walmart said:"We are shocked at this tragic event at our Chesapeake, Virginia store. We're praying for those impacted, the community and our associates. We're working closely with law enforcement, and we are focused on supporting our associates."said:"Our hearts break with the community of Chesapeake this morning.
The president added:"Jill and I grieve for those families, for the Chesapeake community, and for the Commonwealth of Virginia, which just suffered a terrible shooting at the University of Virginia this month. We also mourn for all those across America who have lost loved ones to these tragic shootings that we must come together as a nation to stand against."
