The global star told police he was “a little nervous” during a roadside stop in New York’s exclusive Hamptons.
Nearly eight hours of police body camera footage released Friday include moments that show the global megastar stumbling through balance and coordination testsIn the video, the pop star appears uneasy as officers ask him to walk heel‑to‑toe in a straight line and balance on one leg.
At one point, Timberlake comments on the difficulty of the exercises, telling officers, “By the way… these are like… really hard tests!”Officers reported that he smelled of alcohol when he exited his BMW. Timberlake told police he had consumed one martini and said he was following friends home in the former whaling village, one of the Hamptons’ affluent beach towns, about 100 miles east ofThe officer responded with surprise before asking for his driver’s license. As the sobriety testing continued, Timberlake appeared flustered and apologized to officers while trying to follow their instructions. After being taken into custody, Timberlake questioned the arrest while seated in the back of the patrol car, asking officers, “Why are you arresting me?”“I’m going to be here all night? You guys are wild, man,” he said, later asking officers to leave the light on as he was placed in a cell. The footage was released after Sag Harbor Village and Timberlake’s legal team agreed to disclose a redacted version in response to public records requests.Timberlake’s lawyers initially sued to block the release, arguing the footage would expose “intimate, highly personal, and sensitive details” and cause “severe and irreparable harm” to his reputation by subjecting him to public ridicule. In a joint filing with the village on Friday, however, Timberlake’s attorneys acknowledged that the video did not constitute an unwarranted invasion of privacy under state law and agreed to its release. Village officials said the footage was reviewed and redacted to address safety and privacy concerns before being made public. Timberlake ultimately pleaded guilty in September 2024 to impaired driving, a reduced charge that lowered the original misdemeanor count to a noncriminal traffic violation. As part of the plea deal, the Tennessee native agreed to record a public safety announcement warning about the dangers of drunken driving. He was also fined $500, ordered to complete 25 hours of community service, and had his driver’s license suspended for 90 days."From the beginning of this matter, after Mr. Timberlake's arrest, the Village has attempted to comply with the mandates of the Freedom of Information Law. "As would be true in any case involving records or video footage from our Police Department, such material is reviewed and redacted to address public and officer safety concerns as well as personal privacy considerations."
