At least seven buildings have been destroyed or damaged as wildfires erupted Sunday in Riverside County, California, according to Steve McKinster, deputy chief of the Riverside Fire Department.Two fast-burning fires rapidly scorched around 1,000 acres of brush, leading to evacuations. These fires, named the Hawarden Fire and the Eagle Fire, caused significant damage but no injuries have been reported.
It spread rapidly, burning approximately 500 acres within hours. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection issued evacuation orders and warnings for the affected areas, mobilizing 175 personnel, 28 engines, and a water-dropping helicopter to combat the blaze, according to updates posted to the Riverside County Fire Department's X account.By around 9:30 p.m., officials announced that the forward progress of the Eagle Fire had been halted, and the fire was 25% contained.
