The chief, Chad McArdle, 40, is accused of assaulting a homeless man outside of a bar and lying to officers, according to a police report.
McArdle was placed on paid administrative leave pending his initial court hearing Aug. 17, according to Bill Goncy, the mayor of Boston Heights.
Goncy said McArdle joined the police department part-time in 2007. He was appointed chief of police in 2020. Boston Heights is a village with about 1,500 residents in northern Summit County. “We don’t know anything yet,” Goncy said. “I didn’t know anything happened until we got a call from a news station on Friday.”
