Past NASCAR Cup Series champion sees title hopes take major hit in Playoff opener.
Kevin Harvick—the 2014 NASCAR Cup champion—completed just 274 of the 367 laps in the 73rd Annual Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on Sunday night.Flames were shooting out of both sides of the car as Harvick made his exit.
In fact, he's pointing his finger directly at NASCAR's Next Gen car for a hope-to-not-happen-again experience. Harvick was able to exit the car before the flames reached the cockpit and course workers were able to extinguish the flames rather quickly. What caused the fire was a mystery to Harvick.“I’m sure it’s just the crappy parts on the race car like we’ve seen so many times,” Kevin Harvick said in an NBC TV interview after exiting the race. “We haven’t fixed anything. It’s kinda like the safety stuff, we just let it keep going.
