A video posted yesterday has been making waves all over social media. The video showed angry customers reprimanding foreign workers at a supermarket for allegedly gatekeeping cooking oil packets for other foreigners. As seen in the video, the workers were visibly uncomfortable when being confronted by the customers who accused them of the alleged incident.
“Make this go viral! These people are hiding the oil for their friends. Malaysian citizens will get none of that!” the customer filming the video yelled. However, it was not mentioned how exactly these workers were caught gatekeeping the items from Malaysian customers. From what the customer said and based on the workers’ uniforms, the incident apparently took place at an NSK Supermarket.
Netizens on TikTok reacted to the viral post with many asking the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living to look into the issue while others were not surprised by the incident as it has occurred at other supermarkets around Malaysia as well. Some also stated that the cooking oil packets are subsidised for Malaysian citizens only, therefore foreigners are not allowed to purchase them.
